Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association Announces the new Sustainable Steamboat Business Program
Local Businesses to receive rewards and recognition for using sustainable practicesGreen Biz

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, CO- In celebration of its Centennial year, the Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association announces it will offer its members an opportunity to participate in the Sustainable Steamboat Business Program, 100 More Years, an educational program that will provide Chamber Member businesses with resources, tools and personalized assistance to learn about common sense business practices to help achieve sustainability.  The program will recognize businesses who are achieving set standards.  Lyn Halliday of Environmental Solutions Unltd, LLC, a local environmental consulting business, was hired to develop the program and has begun implementing the education and certification process.

"Sustainable Steamboat is important to the Yampa Valley, region, state, nation and even the world," said Dean Vogelaar, president of the Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association board.  "This program will help to educate local businesses to become part of the global movement known as sustainability."

The objective of this new program is educational and strictly voluntary.   Through the Chamber's Sustainable Steamboat Business Program, member businesses can enroll, for a small fee, in a certification program which offers community-wide recognition as well as access to resources to help them implement, measure, and continually improve their environmentally sustainable practices.

"There is a nationwide movement that is changing the way businesses and consumers alike view their role in society relative to environmental impacts," said Lyn Halliday, president of Environmental Solutions.  "The change involves moving away from a sole focus on regulatory compliance and toward a multi-faceted big picture approach."

Enrollment in the Sustainable Steamboat Business program will allow businesses to learn about how to identify and implement common sense practices to become more sustainable including the use of green products, clean energy, pollution reduction and waste minimization and reuse techniques, resource conservation, and better overall design of the built environment.  Other benefits to the business include potential cost savings associated with the practices, as well as recognition in the community and subsequent consumer preference.

The Sustainable Steamboat Business program is sponsored by the Yampa Valley Community Foundation, Fox Construction, Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation, Yampa Valley Recycles, Environmental Solutions, Unltd., Alpine Bank, BAP/Big Agnes and Green Team.
